What Is Spork Marketing?
It’s occurred to me that it might be good to define “spork marketing” as more than just the name of my company. Based on conversations with business associates, friends, and family, (thank you all) I’ve got some ideas brewing – tell me what you think:
1. Spork marketing is doing more than one thing with your marketing dollar. Using your website as both a sales tool and a training tool would be an example (at least it would be in my mind).
2. Spork marketing is doing more with fewer dollars. That could encompass leveraging social media alongside display advertising, trading $2 of traditional media spend for $1 in new media spend, merging P.R. and SEO, etc. It’s sort of vague in execution, but who doesn’t like 2-for-1 deals?
3. Spork marketing is keeping it brutally simple. Just like you know what a spork does the minute you see it, marketing should make sense at first glance.
4. Spork marketing is about efficiency. If you spend your time and marketing dollars wisely, you can accomplish a lot.
All of these ideas were at heart when I founded the company – they sort of encompass my personal philosophy. I’m hoping to find a way to describe this as more than just my opinion – I’m hoping to create a framework for marketing.
The trouble with #3 and #4 is that they feel too common to me. The trouble with #2 is that I don’t want to hang my hat on being the lowest cost option. The trouble with #1 is that it’s sort of gobbelygook – what does it mean? Everything can pass the “do more than one thing” test if you try hard enough.
What do you think – what does ’spork marketing’ mean to you? I’m looking for whatever you can give me – thanks!
